The President's ban on deadly chemicals
A Biden administration program known as “Cancer Moonshot” is an initiative working toward the elimination of all cancers. A step toward reaching that goal is phasing out the use of commonly used but toxic chemicals in products and industries. A victory for Cancer Moonshot is the Environmental Protection Agency’s ban on trichloroethylene (TCE) and perchloroethylene (PCE).
Known to cause cancers of the liver and kidneys and damage the central nervous system and reproductive organs, TCE is a solvent used in cleaning and furniture care products, adhesives, paints and coatings, and several other commercial and consumer items.
PCE is widely used in dry cleaning facilities and industrial settings and is a known neuro and reproductive toxin, and causes organ, brain, and testicular cancers.
TCE and PCE were among the chemicals found in the drinking water of Camp Lejeune, a Marine base in North Carolina. Studies have shown people exposed to the water were more likely to die from blood and organ cancers, and 70% more likely to develop Parkinson’s disease.
Eradicating cancer from the human experience is a bold vision, like ending slavery and setting foot on the moon, and should add to the Biden administration's legacy.

The sad thing is many of these chemicals are used in places where workers have no idea what they're handling and the danger of the exposure. Certainly the marines and their families at Camp Lejeune had no idea they were drinking poison. I'm very happy to see President Biden's push for the EPA ban. Thanks for posting these positive steps to protect our people and environment.
