Great news for prescription drug customers
When a news report mentions "closed-door negotiations in Washington," images of nefarious dealings between monolithic corporations and politicians under their ownership typically come to mind.
Sometimes, however, such negotiations bring good news.
It was announced that an agreement between the White House and pharmaceutical companies will drop prices for 10 drugs for conditions like arthritis, cancer, diabetes, and heart failure, taking effect in January 2026.
This landmark deal was made possible by the Biden administration's Inflation Reduction Act, which ended Medicare’s 20-year ban on negotiating drug prices. Not surprisingly, factions within the pharmaceutical industry have pushed back against the lower prices, saying they will hinder new drug innovation and development. This push-back wouldn't have anything to do with investors' and executive profits, would it?

This is actually a very big deal for seniors who are dependent on numerous drugs. Not only does this plan reduce the cost of specified drugs, starting in 2025 the Inflation Reduction Act also caps a senior's out of pocket costs for Part D prescription drugs to $2,000 annually.
