CEO leads protest against the Kelloggs company
Until recently, I hadn’t heard of Jason Karp, the founder and CEO of HumanCo, a holding company that owns and invests in food brands that create better-for-you products. When in his early 20s, he was diagnosed with multiple autoimmune diseases and a degenerative eye disease that threatened his sight. He says that through radical changes in his nutrition and lifestyle, his health issues were all resolved. It was through this experience Mr. Karp started HumanCo.
In addition to owning HumanCo, Mr. Karp is also a shareholder with the WK Kellogg company, famous for breakfast cereals like Froot Loops, Frosted Flakes, and Apple Jacks. In October, he led a protest at the cereal company’s headquarters in Michigan, demanding Kellogg remove several dyes used in its cereals like Red 40, Yellow 6, Blue 1, and the preservative BHT. Linked to ADHD symptoms in children and allergic reactions like hives, these additives are banned in several European countries and Canada.
You rarely hear of a company CEO holding another company accountable for commitments it made to create safer products. In 2015, Kellogg said it would remove artificial colors from its cereals within three years but failed to follow through.
Mr. Karp is a trailblazer, and you can learn more about his protest against Kellogg in this article from Legal Dive, as well as HumanCo’s mission and consumer products at https://www.humanco.com.

With all the sugar and dyes, I don't think there's an ounce of anything healthy in those cereals. Getting little kids to eat is sometimes a battle, but these items are not a good alternative.
I'm very pleased Mr. Karp, as a Kellogg shareholder, spoke loudly and clearly about how wrong the company's lack of action is. Protests like his can move the most stubborn companies to follow through on their commitments.
Good article, thanks for sharing!
