Resist and Unsubscribe
Economics professor and author Scott Galloway is one of the many outspoken critics of the tactics of ICE and border patrol agents in Minneapolis. Based on his observations of the Trump administration’s actions over the last year, he believes an economic strike will be more effective in changing immigrant enforcement policies than traditional protests alone.
Galloway points to stock market performance, interest rate increases, and threats to the gross domestic product that influenced the president to move away from tariff increases and the annexation of Greenland. When the market drops significantly, and the portfolios and earnings reports of his billionaire donors and their companies risk taking a hit, Trump does an about-face.
This is why Galloway has launched the “Resist and Unsubscribe” initiative—“a temporary pullback on consumer discretionary spending focused on where economic and political power are most concentrated, specifically tech and AI.”
The Resist and Unsubscribe website contains extensive lists of companies with substantial influence on the national economy and the president, as well as active enablers and supporters of ICE. The site includes links to cancel services and unsubscribe from companies that include Amazon, Netflix, Paramount+, Comcast, UPS, and Marriott, to name a few.
In this short video, Galloway makes the case for this call to action. If his assessment of what sways the president is correct and if embraced by enough citizens, Resist and Unsubscribe may influence ICE and border enforcement policies for the better.
