Plastic and CO2=Valuable Fuel?
A study in the journal Science Advances found that just nine percent of the globe's 6.3 billion metric tons of plastic waste has been recycled. If plastic manufacturing and usage keep pace, by 2050 it's estimated there will be 12 billion metric tons in landfills—35,000 times as heavy as the Empire State Building.
Some promising news—researchers at the University of Cambridge say they've built a machine that uses solar energy to convert plastic and carbon dioxide into fuel and other products. Potentially, this is a big step toward a circular economy where useful things are made from waste instead of winding up in a landfill.

Yes, this does seem very promising. The researchers are excited about the prospects, so I'm cheering them on to success.
