No to Red Dye No. 3 in California
California has become the first state to ban red dye No. 3 and other potentially harmful food additives in popular candies, drinks, and other foods.
Aimed at reducing people's consumption of chemicals linked to cancer, developmental issues in children, and other conditions, the law signed by Governor Gavin Newsom will go into effect in 2027.
Not surprisingly, the National Confectioners Association says such a law will actually be detrimental to consumers. However, because of California's large economy, companies will likely remove the chemicals in products sold nationwide.

Slipstream
Europe demanded that red dye No. 3 be removed from all products sold there. American manufacturers quickly got on board and found a new formula that didn't require the red dye No. 3 additive. They'll moan and groan but get on board here too. Their profit margin depends on it. California once again leads the way to safer products in the U.S. by twisting corporate arms.
