The joys of hiding no more
Ruth Rathblott was born without a left hand. Her well-meaning parents raised her as completely normal, but as a result, Ruth says, "I didn't have space to talk about my limb difference—and it was different."
Once in high school, she felt compelled to hide her disability from classmates, leading to self-loathing, "not-enoughness," and an inability to form deep relationships.
In this article, Ruth talks about her challenges, reaching a point where hiding was no longer an option, and the joys that have come from embracing her limb difference and herself.

It's all about liberation!

This is a wonderful article. I thought the "unhiding can set you free" was particularly liberating. Thanks!
