Half-male, half-female bird discovered

News Flash

Gynadromorphism is a word I hadn't heard before. Zoologist and professor Hamish Spencer describes gynandromorphs as "animals with both male and female characteristics in a species that usually have separate sexes.”

This article showcases a rare and beautiful bird, the green honeycreeper, that has the female's green feathers and the male's blue feathers. How rare is this find? There are only two recorded examples of bilateral gynandromorphism in this bird species in more than 100 years.

Sometimes, one imagines our planet is dying. Then I read an article like this and realize planet earth is just continuing to evolve, even adapting to new climate conditions. Recently I've read about newly discovered ocean species, surprising new insects, and even an animal was found that was thought to be extinct. This s/he bird is stunning. Thanks for sharing this story!❤️
