Another health benefit of coffee

I’m a coffee lover, and except for water, I can’t think of another drink or food that I look forward to having daily and long for when I don’t have it. Pork chops for lunch every day would get old quickly.
When science finds a potential link between coffee consumption and health benefits, my interest is piqued. Along with lowered risks of type 2 diabetes, cardiovascular and Parkinson's disease, a recent study in Nature Microbiology shows that a daily cup of Joe is good for our gut health.
Researchers have learned that coffee drinkers have higher levels of a beneficial bacteria strain, L. asaccharolyticus, than those who don’t drink it. They believe coffee’s polyphenols (plant-based compounds) influence the growth of this particular bacteria. Gut and microbiome studies have revealed their profound impacts on physical and mental health.
In this article from Food and Wine, read more about this research, coffee’s benefits, and other foods and drinks that promote a healthy and happy gut.

Coffee was a no-no for a while and now look at it. I'm like you, the thought of my cup of coffee is what gets me out of bed. I love it, and so does my gut—a satisfying win-win. Thanks for the good news😃
