America's dirtiest restaurant chains

If someone were to ask you to think of a popular fast-food restaurant chain, it would likely be on this list.
Among the offenders were McDonald’s, Burger King, Taco Bell, and even Chipotle. In addition to burgers, fries, and burritos, E. coli, hepatitis A, salmonella, and norovirus were served.
Violations cited by inspectors included unclean cooking environments with spoiled produce, mold, cockroaches, and rats. Fortunately, the violations were mostly isolated to a few locations, rather than chain-wide.
Dining out anywhere, even at high-end restaurants, comes with risk because we don’t know what goes on behind the scenes. In addition to confirming a health department A-grade rating when choosing a place to eat, checking in with our intuition is a good idea. If it says, “Let’s pass on that one,” we’d be wise to listen.
