Fire Chief Drives Pickup On Trestle For Rescue
When floodwaters began swallowing roads in a small West Virginia community, Volunteer Fire Chief Mark White wasn't thinking about his own safety. He was thinking about the people still trapped in their homes and how he could rescue them. Two of those people were 93-year-old Ruby Dempsey and her daughter.
With rain pouring and flood waters rising, Chief White made a split-second decision that saved the women’s lives.
