In a world where viruses can upend lives and destabilize communities, a team of researchers from the University of Pennsylvania School of Dental Medicine and their Finnish collaborators are doing what we need more of: thinking ahead, thinking together, and thinking about all of us. Their latest innovation—a plant-based chewing gum made from lablab beans—might sound simple. But its potential is extraordinary.

This man is a total genius. According to his professional bio, he has developed drugs to treat dental caries, diabetes, hemophilia, pulmonary hypertension, diabetic retinopathy, and Alzheimer’s disease, as well as oral vaccines for cholera, tuberculosis, malaria, polio, and plague.
I hope he's not mistaken for an immigrant and forced onto a plane headed for El Salvador.
