Frustration cancelled

News Flash

I've been so annoyed when trying to opt out of a free trial offer or cancel a subscription or membership. Having to go through multiple steps and clicking preliminary buttons to finally reach the final, “Yes, I really want to cancel,” Cancel button has had me pulling my hair out on numerous occasions.

But those annoyances are coming to an end. The Federal Trade Commission will be enacting a final “click to cancel” rule making cancelling as easy as signing up. Hallelujah! If the new administration doesn't think it's too much government overreach and kill it, we should see it go in effect in about 6 months.

You can read the details in this FTC press release.

The sooner the better as far as I'm concerned 😃

There's a class action against the NY Times for this type of practice. I'm glad someone at the FTC decided it was time for a new rule. Good for them, and good to know there's finally recourse.

Thank you, FTC!

I remember the frustration of a friend who signed up for a dating site that billed her for months, even after dealing with the endless red tape to cancel her membership. Some companies clearly aim to exhaust the consumer so they'll simply give up, even if it costs them money.

Even with Amazon, there are several clicks until you get to the one that finally uncouples you from them.
