Ten Crazy People Who Were Proven Right

“First they ignore you, then they laugh at you, then they fight you, then they join you.” This quote came to mind when I watched this video.

Ridicule is often used to diminish the legitimacy of anyone who challenges the status quo with their unique insights. If ridicule doesn’t silence them, or outright condemnation, character assassination will come next, or they may be called “crazy” and locked up.

This video presents ten famous people who were once scorned for their insights, but ultimately vindicated as time proved them right. No longer thought to be crazy, they are now called courageous, visionary, trailblazer—or likely all three. My favorite trailblazer in this video is Martha Mitchell. If you have a favorite, please share!

Each of these profiles is fascinating. I remember how the football league dragged its feet to implement changes when Bennet Omalu presented evidence of players' brain injuries.
I don't know if Sinead O'Connor knew her SNL performance would obliterate her career, but she was willing to endure that possibility. Her life was wrought with challenges, and ended far too early at 57.
