Determination opens doors to a bright future
A few years may have passed since Corey Patrick’s story captured hearts nationwide, but its impact remains just as powerful. The Alabama teenager made headlines for his tenacity, waking up at 4:30 a.m. every morning to embark on a 90-minute bus ride to his high school. After moving 10 miles away his senior year, his commitment to graduating alongside his friends and beloved teachers never wavered. On graduation day, Corey followed his daily routine, rising before dawn and walking to the bus stop, this time dressed in his cap and gown.
Support poured in after the post went viral, and comedian Rickey Smiley surprised Corey with the gift of a car. Now, Corey is preparing for an even brighter future: he received a full scholarship to Jacksonville University and plans to study computer science. What a great and inspirational story. Determination rules the day. It reminds me of a college incident. The class I was about to take was full and the teacher addressed a young man standing at the back of the room. “Sorry but there’s no room, the class is full.” “Would it be alright if I just stood here and listened?” “Well, I suppose so,” said the teacher. So he showed up for 5 or 6 classes and stood unassumingly at the
back…until someone dropped out and he got their spot. Perseverance pays off!
