Notable Quotable: Winston Churchill On Truth

News Flash

Imagine going to the doctor with troubling symptoms. You’re scared, vulnerable, and relying on their expertise. Now, imagine they sugarcoat your condition, downplay its seriousness, or fail to give you the full picture. That omission—or outright lie—could cost you time, health, or even your life. When truth is withheld in critical moments, it’s more than disappointing; it’s life-threatening.

Now consider something closer to home: when your child lies to you. Maybe they say they’re at a friend’s house, but they’re actually somewhere unsafe. The lie might seem small at first, but its implications can be devastating. You lose trust, worry for their safety, and question the strength of your relationship. Lies cut deeper than we often admit because they rob us of the clarity and connection we need to navigate life.

When leaders lie or distort facts, including our President, the nation is belittled and disrespected. Policies built on falsehoods lead to injustice, environmental harm, political disruption, or economic failure. When institutions we rely on—like the media or education—spread misinformation, it undermines our ability to make informed decisions. These aren’t abstract concerns; they ripple into our daily lives, affecting everything from the safety of our food to the fairness of our justice system. Simply put, lies lead us astray.

Tonight, President Trump chose to betray our trust once more with a cascade of new lies in order to undermine our confidence in the electoral process. Why, would he want to do such a thing?

The answer lies in what he told an audience of supporters recently, "You gotta win the midterms, because if we don't win the midterms, they'll find a reason to impeach me." It was all about him. It was not about protecting you or the nation. It was about protecting himself.

The truth is factual. Lies are manipulative. As a nation, we must restore the truth, be vigilant to the lies, and hold ourselves and others accountable. Ask the hard questions. Seek out reliable information. Insist on honesty from everyone in your life, including the president.
