Nearly Half Of U.S. Kids Breathe Unhealthy Air

News Flash

Since the Clean Air Act passed in 1970, air pollution fell dramatically across the country. It was a genuine achievement and advancement for American citizens.

Now, thanks to Trump dismissing scientific evidence linking greenhouse gasses to health issues and forcing EPA to deregulate all sources of environmental pollutants, dangerous particles and ozone levels are on the rise once more, leaving nearly half of U.S. children and teens breathing unhealthy air every day.

The American Lung Association has issued a warning based on its latest State of the Air report: 44% of the U.S. population reside in areas with unhealthy levels of pollution, including 33 million who are younger than 18. Kids and seniors are most at risk for the harmful effects of ozone and particle pollution.

The report's authors warn, "Contrary to its mission, EPA has recently acted to weaken, delay or revoke key health protections that will leave America's children more exposed and more vulnerable to the consequences of many different pollutants, including ozone and particle pollution."

Energy companies and corporations in general don't want regulations. They have an advocate in the White House now, so they're cheering for rolling back any and all regulations that may take away from their bottom line, no matter the harm to the people who buy their products.

They're all narcissistic sociopaths, the definition of which is: People who seek to ingratiate themselves with power, money, pleasure, and other niceties and do so at the expense of others. Sound familiar?

As of today, the president's approval rating is 32%. These are the voters who will stand with him if he shoots someone on 5th Ave., drops a nuke on a country, or repeals regulations over corporate polluters.

The citizens (many of whom are Trump supporters) who will develop respiratory illnesses as a result be damned. They are merely collateral damage in the unbridling of corporate profits and shareholder enrichment.

I learned that ozone causes an increased risk of metabolic disorders such as glucose intolerance, hyperglycemia and diabetes. Who knew? It also has an impact on the central nervous system, including brain inflammation and increased risk of cognitive decline. Smog = Brain fog. If the Trump admin chose to allow higher levels of this junk in the air, it must mean it's all part of the plan to thin out the planet's population.

We moved so many factories out of the U.S. which helped clean up the air quality, but back then there were half as many motor vehicles on our roads than there are today. Today our homes are larger, we use more electricity to cool and heat our homes, wash and dry clothes, use computers, charge phones, watch tv, and use gas for cooking. There are ways to mitigate the amount of pollution in fossil fuels, but there's little will to do so since it costs pennies more. It's up to us to conserve as much as possible.
