Maria Corina Machado Wins 2025 Nobel Peace Prize

Today, the Nobel Committee announced its choice for the 2025 Nobel Peace Prize winner.
Although Donald Trump had hoped to be this year’s recipient, the Nobel Committee made clear why it was awarded to Maria Corina Machado, citing the weakening of democracy around the world:
“The Nobel Peace Prize for 2025 goes to a brave and determined champion of peace, to a woman who keeps the flame of democracy burning amidst the growing darkness.
“The Norwegian Nobel Committee has decided to award the Nobel Peace Prize for 2025 to Maria Corina Machado. She is receiving the Nobel Peace Prize for her tireless work promoting democratic rights for the people of Venezuela and for their struggle to achieve a just and peaceful transition from dictatorship to democracy.
“As the leader of democratic forces in Venezuela, Maria Corina Machado is one of the most extraordinary examples of civilian courage in Latin America in recent times. Ms. Machado has been a key unifying figure in a political opposition that was once deeply divided and found common ground in the demand for free elections and representative government.
“This is precisely what lies at the heart of democracy, our shared willingness to defend the principles of popular rule even though we disagree. At a time when democracy is under threat, it is more important than ever to defend this common ground.”
Peace is not solely about ending wars. It’s about ending tyranny, fighting for democratic rule, and bringing a nation’s citizenry into peaceful coexistence.
Congratulations to Maria Corina Machado. May the good fight continue.

I love that she, but largely democracy, was chosen for this year’s Nobel Peace Prize.
Machado said she is counting on President Trump’s continued support in achieving freedom and democracy for Venezuela. In fact, rumors have circulated that she is sheltering in the U.S embassy in Caracas, the country’s capital.
As a point of interest, when she was arrested earlier this year during an anti-government protest, President Trump threatened the regime, claiming she was only “peacefully expressing the voices and the will of the Venezuelan people,” adding, “These freedom-fighters should not be harmed.” It’s ironic, considering that when U.S. citizens take to the streets in equally peaceful protests (and not in as great numbers), he calls it “terrorism” and deploys troops to U.S. cities,” a strategy Venezuela’s President Maduro also employs to dismantle any dissent, opposition, or protests against his regime and its sham elections.
Historically, U.S. attempts at regime change in Venezuela have been ongoing for decades, largely because we could manage the nation’s large oil reserves and benefit from them. This video is a quick summary of our long history in this fight.
