Marks Of An Educated Man

Knowledge

I enjoy chatting with strangers I bump into. I learn from the conversations we have, man to man. Makes no difference where they come from, how long they'd been here, or if they got their official legal status. I look at their hands and know they're hard workers.

Still, there's a more important way I size 'em up. I listen to what they say and can gather if they've been educated or not.

What about you? Do you wonder if you have the marks of an educated man? Let these questions be your guide:

1. Has your education made you a friend of all good causes?

2. Has your education made you a brother to the weak?

3. Do you see anything to love in a little child?

4. Would a lost dog follow you in the street?

5. Do you enjoy being alone?

6. Do you believe in the dignity of labor?

7. Can you look into a mud puddle and see the blue sky?

8. Can you go out in the night, look up in the sky, and see beyond the stars?

9. Is your life linked with the Infinite?

My grandad shared this list with me way back. And being a quiet Sunday morning, I was just feeling a nudge to share it with you all.

Present Valley

Ohhhh this list speaks to my heart. Your grandad was a genius.
Thank you. Glad you followed your nudge.
A great gift this beautiful Sunday.
I consider myself an educated woman.

Slipstream

I strive to be an educated woman. Not so sure about #4, but cats follow me; does that count? Thanks to your grandad for the wise words and to you for sharing them.

Evangel

Such a brilliant list with thoughtful questions. Your grandfather was a very cool man, apparently.

I'm quite sure when we connect to the Infinite, the right knowledge flows in and inspires us to do what's necessary and right in each moment. We might call it "just in time knowledge" that accrues into a full education as time goes on.
