A Volunteer Force to Reckon With!

News Flash

Youtropolis partnered up today with Happy Harvesters for another day of community action in Long Beach, California, where volunteers harvested over 100 pounds of oranges from a local homeowner’s orange tree.

Boxes of fresh oranges were then promptly distributed to St. Vincent de Paul food bank and Mental Health America LA, Long Beach—a community organization that provides services to Long Beach’s homeless population.

After the job was complete, the generous homeowner invited volunteers to come back to harvest her peach and apple trees once the fruit matures and is ready for picking. The volunteers all pledged to return for another day of action and finish the job.

The volunteer partnership between Youtropolis and Happy Harvesters was formed to serve community members who are experiencing food insecurity in Long Beach and help residential homeowners reduce waste by harvesting their fruit trees and distributing the yield to local area food banks.
