When Dolly Parton and Gloria Steinem passed just days apart, I wondered what their conversation might be if they ran into each other on the other side.

Though stark economic contrasts defined their upbringing, both possessed the same unbridled grit to step into the spotlight and give a shoutout to all women. One raised her fist, the other her voice, calling out the hurt, injustices, and double standards that have degraded women since the dawn of time.

Certainly, neither Dolly nor Gloria would submit to such behavior in our modern age, and both firmly believed no woman should. So, in their own way, from their own stage, they moved our country forward, giving women the justice due them through song and social consciousness-raising.

Now that they've left us, we should all ask ourselves if we're prepared and willing to carry their legacy forward—or will we let it slip back into old-fashioned ways where men are free to kick us to the curb?

That test is already upon us with certain manosphere groups advocating the need to rescind a woman's right to vote.
