There's Nothing Christian In Christian Nationalism

Texas State Rep. James Talarico and Stephen Colbert discuss God and Christianity in this profound interview taped during the Late Show.

Mr. Talarico is so well spoken, and what he speaks about is my truth, too. The cancellation of this particular show by CBS sent the video into viral-land. Many more views than CBS would have had. I appreciate the irony.

It's heartening that someone in office knows how to respectfully speak truth to power and does so repeatedly from a place of holy Truth.

CBS forbidding Coblert to air this segment on their TV simulcast reminds me of when Tipper Gore and her PMRC were able to get warning stickers on albums they deemed offensive, which only increased sales of those albums.

24 hours after the interview, the Talarico campaign reported receiving $2.5 million in contributions. His democratic opponent, Jasmine Crockett, has been polling about 8 points ahead, but pollsters are watching if this appearance on Colbert will give Talarico a bump.

I can think of no one better than a Christian Seminarian to spread the message that “Christian nationalism is the worship of power in the name of Christ.”

Crockett can ask for equal time--it's her right, but she probably doesn't feel she needs to push for it with her 8 point lead.

All these groups, whether it was late last century's Christian Coalition, Focus on the Family, or any of the countless other "Christian" political organizations, they all roll up into a cabal that is funded through the language of hate toward gays, abortion, separation of church and state, and equality with women. Different generation, different faces, always white males on their imaginary thrones.

Would love to see this man succeed in his career without becoming corrupted by the grizzly nature of political sport. He gives me hope.

Evangel

He appears to be grounded in his truth. I would bet that if the political scene forces him to go against his conscience, he'll leave that stage and preach truth from the real pulpit.
