Wait...Who's Cashing In On My Tax Returns?
This is the time of year we start seeing ads for tax preparers all promising fast, easy, reliable, accurate tax services followed by their promise that our privacy is a priority to them. Well, apparently my privacy, and yours, is not that important after all.
In this jaw-dropping exposé from The Markup, they detail how the major tax filing services “have been quietly transmitting sensitive financial information to Facebook.” And by the way, it’s not just your email and phone number, some providers go as far as to send your annual income and other details about your life contained in your return.
Once The Markup presented these companies with their findings, some have attempted to clean up their act, others, not so much. Buyers beware!

"Meta collects so much data even the company itself sometimes may be unaware of where it ends up." Frightening and infuriating, but not especially surprising that Facebook's efforts to harvest as much data as possible extend to unsuspecting taxpayers' use of these programs.
At this point, no one can possibly accept the tired and deceitful PR excuse that it's only done "to enhance the customer's experience."
