Notable Quotable: Pope Francis On The Cult of Gold

News Flash

Today, our prayers go out to Pope Francis who continues to battle pneumonia in both lungs.

His quote is especially notable as it echoes back to the frustration Jesus expressed while turning over the tables of the money changers and warning us that, “Man does not live by bread alone.”

Pope Francis’ insight reveals a stark parallel between the symbolic golden calf of biblical times and the iconic charging bull of Manhattan’s Financial District—which Americans must now all bow to.

An economy that has no human goal other than to enrich the rich has sadly become the be-all and end-all of American society. It’s become our only guiding light, our true north, and a dark religion of sorts that anoints and celebrates the practice of leaning heavily into immoral, unrestrained behaviors that continue to hurt the most disadvantaged among us.

Pope Francis, who has long advocated for social reforms, justice, and human dignity, is bearing witness to a cataclysmic end of goodness as we’ve known it.

A wild, beyond the pale level of heartlessness is evident through the new, punitive dictates of this latest administration. The ruthless and obscene gusto with which tens of thousands of hardworking people are being pushed out of jobs and country must be viewed as nothing less than evil.

It’s no wonder Pope Francis has taken ill.
