A New Homeland Built on Love, Not Profits
When something lands outside the box, human nature can be very skeptical. So when the topic turns to Youtropolis, lots of questions are asked.
“What is it, exactly?” is generally the first one, and the conversation goes from there.
“It’s the first city of its kind.”
"A city? You don’t mean a real city.”
“Yes, it’s a genuine city that's being deliberately built with love and good will instead of concrete and steel.”
“How can it be a genuine city if it’s just an app?”
“Look at it this way: people once lived in caves, then in huts and teepees, then in structures made of mud, or marble, and everything in-between. Today some people are forced to live in cardboard structures under freeway passes, some dwell in space stations, and some land in cyberspace.”
“Seriously? You can’t grow crops in cyberspace, or breathe air—so technically, it's not a city.”
“Dirt and air don’t make cities, people do. Without people, there’s nothing more than a ghost town. In Youtropolis, you get to build a tribe of people who will have your back and collaborate on fulfilling your wishes or meeting real needs—which may even include sharing their home-grown crops with you, just for the asking. So, the air we breathe here in Youtropolis is full of hope—after all, man does not live by bread alone.”
“Huh? What do you mean? You still need money to get by no matter where you live.”
“Sure. But how well you live is always more important than where you live, and in Youtropolis you can live very well by participating in our weconomy.
“How?”
“One hand feeds the other. That’s what a tribe is all about.”
“Well, whatever. But how do I ‘like’ someone’s post? Where’s the like button?”
“Why not do something nicer for them? If you liked their post, you could take a moment to give them some kindreds or leave a heartfelt comment. Or offer encouragement on a pledge they’ve made. Or share your intuition on their Tribal Wave poll. Or help fulfill their wish. Wouldn’t that be more impactful than just clicking ‘like’?
“But it’s easier just to ‘like’ someone!”
“Easier for you. But for them, I think they'd rather get some real love. Wouldn’t you?"
