Liberators In Action: Slaying A Raging Dragon

News Flash

We are in the midst of a climate war, though no one will call it that. Its battlefield is your backyard, the local church, a neighborhood school, our community playground. This war plays by no rules with its savage winds and apocalyptic fires—anything is fair game. Unlike human wars that reduce buildings to rubble, this war leaves nothing but ash. This is the unlikely World War 3 no one could imagine.

The city of Los Angeles is fully under attack, but within the horrors of this cataclysmic event there is an army of undeterred citizens who stand tall as liberators. These are the firefighters, first responders, and countless volunteers who embody courage and compassion, risking everything to save lives, protect homes, and provide solace to those in need.

The bravery of firefighters battling multiple infernos simultaneously is nothing short of extraordinary. With unyielding resolve, they charge into danger, facing towering flames, unpredictable winds, and grueling conditions. Their unwavering commitment to preserving life and property makes them heroic in every sense of the word. To fend off this untethered enemy, they work around the clock, often leaving their own families behind to safeguard ours. Their strength, skill, and resilience inspire profound gratitude and admiration.

Equally remarkable are the first responders and emergency personnel who ensure that evacuees are safely transported, cared for, and reassured during these terrifying moments. Their calm under pressure and tireless efforts to organize evacuations, provide medical assistance, and maintain order are vital lifelines for communities under siege.

Then there are the steadfast volunteers—everyday citizens who step out of their comfort zone to meet the hour of need. They deliver food, clothing, and essential supplies to evacuees, set up shelters, and provide comfort to those who have lost everything. Their acts of kindness and generosity remind us of the power of community and the goodness that shines through even the darkest of times.

These exceptional members of our community—firefighters, first responders, and volunteers—are the backbone of what now must be a war effort against a devastating climate foe. They show us what it means to lead with strength and love, to put others first, and to stand together when it matters most. Their actions remind us that even in the face of unimaginable loss, there is hope and humanity.

To all the heroes of the January 2025 Los Angeles wildfires: thank you. Your courage, compassion, and sacrifice will not be forgotten. You remind us all of the best in ourselves, and we are forever grateful for your strength and goodness.

Watching this devastation has been heart breaking. My fear is that when all is said and done the anger will be misdirected. Instead of focusing on climate change and what we need to do- the blame game will be happening. Politicians cannot create water or stop the winds. Change needs to come but let’s listen to the scientists and their warnings. Love and positive thoughts for our west coast friends and family. Many of Jim’s and my memory places are no longer there. We are thankful that our friends and family are safe.

Everyone involved in the effort to save homes and help the residents are real heroes. I appreciate this tribute to them.

Someone posted on Nextdoor today that while at the grocery store, he noticed several customers interacting with one another, exhibiting a camaraderie that was reminiscent of the days of 9/11. It seems that, once again, disaster can bring down people's walls and bring out their good, at least for a time.

Thank you for this tribute and heralding the firefighters, responders, and volunteers as the heroes they are.
