Liberators in Action: Fundación 911

News Flash

As ICE agents search for more Mexicans to take out of our country, highly-skilled Mexican divers continue to search for US victims in the swift waters of the Guadalupe River.

“There’s nothing that’ll keep us from helping another firefighter, another family,” said Ismael Aldaba, founder of Fundación 911, a non-profit rescue organization in Acuña, Mexico. Aldaba and his elite team of divers joined US first responders in search and rescue efforts when a deadly flood took Texas communities by surprise, leaving a disaster of catastrophic proportions behind.

Diving into wreckage to aid survivors, these volunteers have been working shoulder to shoulder with their American counterparts since the tragedy struck on July 4. They came because, as they say, “there are no borders when it comes to saving lives.”

In a social media post, the US ambassador to Mexico, Ronald Johnson, thanked the Mexican teams for their efforts. “The United States and Mexico are united, not only as neighbors but as family, especially in times of need,” he said.

As news headlines continue to magnify our social divisions, Ismael and his team show us what genuine humanity in action looks like across borders or not. Read more about this unique collaboration in The Texas Standard.

Thank God the men of Fundación 911 believe in solidarity and helping those in desperate need, despite the country's political circumstances.

They didn't stop at the border, care about color of skin, or ask what religion or sexual orientation the people in need were. That's the way it should be. I read where this team also came up to California to assist in the Palisades fire. Bless each and every one of them for risking their own lives to save others.
