Liberator in Action: Ali Shirkhodaei

Have you ever wondered what people mean when they lament the loss of “the American way of life”? Can anyone even define what that means? Well, meet Ali Shirkhodaei.
When Ali arrived from Iran in 2006 with a degree in molecular biology, he hoped to work hard, contribute, and belong. But doors didn’t open easily, so he carved out a path on his own. He started a dry-cleaning business in Campbell, California, not just to make a living, but to make a difference. Today, Lux Cleaners & Alterations is known for its high-quality work and something even more valuable: kindness.
Ali offers free cleanings to anyone unemployed and heading to a job interview. No questions asked. No limits. Because he remembers what it felt like to need a hand, and he knows how far a clean outfit and a little self-confidence can go.
He works long hours and treats his staff like family. He’s not looking for applause. He just shows up, like so many immigrants before him, giving back to a community he loves. Ali says, “It’s not about just getting, it’s about giving. That’s the part that brings all of us joy.”
As we see it, Ali not only exemplifies the ideal American way of life, he amplifies it through his actions.

How inspiring. Even though Ali could have been disheartened that his impressive credentials weren't generating the expected opportunities, he successfully pivoted, driven primarily by a desire to bring joy and make a difference.
I wonder how challenging it is for an Iranian citizen to leave the country permanently. Is it logistically similar to moving from one state to another in the US, or does their government make it difficult?
