The End of Killer Superbugs?
Antibiotic resistance claims more than 1.2 millions lives a year. But scientists recently put their genius to work and grew a powerful new antibiotic in the “dark matter” of bacteria that successfully tackles the superbugs people are resistant to.
Dr. Markus Weingarth, a researcher from the Chemistry Department of Utrecht University said, “Since Clovibactin was isolated from bacteria that could not be grown before, pathogenic bacteria have not seen such an antibiotic before and had no time to develop resistance.”
