Stars or scars?

Knowledge

What will your legacy be? To help you answer that question, here is a thought to ponder from the poet Ella Wheeler Wilcox:

"We flatter those we scarcely know, we please the fleeting guest,
and deal too many a thoughtless blow to those who love us best."

Are you a flatterer or batterer? Are you creating stars or leaving scars? Wherever you stand becomes your legacy.

Ella didn't pull any punches with this little poem. And sadly, she's right. Overlooking our nearest and dearest while praising the unworthy is a behavior that destroys relationships. Thanks for posting Ella's wake-up call--pay attention to your loved ones, first and foremost.

Another interpretation of flattery and pleasing those we hardly know (if at all) is caring too much about others' opinions of us, often people who are strangers. This practice will "deal too many a thoughtless blow" to ourselves.

Wanting validation from others is human nature. But how you think you measure up in their eyes is all about what you think about yourself. If you measure yourself against others or another's opinion of you, you've forgotten god made you an original in his image. I enjoy your thoughtful comments.

It is amazing the punch a few well written words strung together packs.
I sincerely pray I am leaving a legacy of stars!!!

These are sad yet very true behaviors that we have most likely all witnessed and even been on the receiving end of it. Not to mention the
damage we do to ourselves by engaging in "scar" behavior.

Thank you for shining the light on stars -vs- scars legacy.
