To be fair, I think there are a lot of people who have changed their minds through the years. I have a very close friend, (cousin) who voted for Trump in 2016. She was disillusioned. I supported Sanders once upon a time. I no longer do. I think most of us want the best for our country. We see what we want to see in our politicians. I think we will always be disappointed. They are human. And, so are we.
Hypocrisy has been part of the political game for longer than the US has existed, and it's common to bash an opponent until offered a position in the administration.
However, the 180-degree shift from harshest critic to sycophantic disciple by Hegseth, Vance, Graham, Rubio, Gabbard, and the rest of the motley crew is nothing short of legendary.
It is legendary but also humorous. Trump silences his harshest critics by giving them power. It's a smart thing to do. It's a mental quid pro quo: I give you power and I get to own you.
It's stunning, but politicians are well-known for flip-flopping. It's tolerated though criticized in the press. I would imagine that anyone chosen for an important position by any U.S. president, regardless of party or personal affinity, would feel honored and accept the invitation on the belief that they'd be in a position to improve this country, and even benefit personally.
Politicians are well-known as flip-floppers. They do whatever it takes to stay in office. It's all part of the playbook of getting a job and keeping it.
