Someone Wants What You Have!

Knowledge

A while back, I was at Trader Joe's paying for my groceries. The checker, a young woman in her twenties, was making small talk. "Did you find everything okay?" I said yes, and before long, the conversation took a turn. She told me she was going to school to be a criminal attorney. That had always been an interest for me, so I asked her where she was going to school. Cal State Long Beach was her answer. She told me she was originally from Carmel, California, but that she was going to make Long Beach her permanent home because she loved it.

Now, I’ve been to Carmel a couple of times. It’s absolutely stunning. While visiting, I wished I could live there, or at least have a home for getaways. There are cute cottages, gorgeous ocean views, quaint shops, parks, etc. Carmel looks like a postcard. But this young woman CHOSE to leave there. No one forced her to come to Long Beach. But here she was, now trying to convince her parents to move out here as well.

I thought about this on the way home. I live near the Long Beach area. While I think it’s nice, I guess I don’t really pay too close attention. Carmel, now that’s a different story. But Carmel to that young woman is just another town with bad weather. Long Beach, from her perspective, is a happening place with great weather most of the year.

I was reminded that we all have what someone else wants. We may not see it; we may take it for granted, but we have it. And someone wants it.

I suggest we look at what we have through different lenses. Why might someone want something we have? Think about it. Then maybe you too will see what they see and be grateful you have it.

Good reminder. Love what you have, and you'll be happier.

Exactly! I think most of us get so wrapped up with events, we forget we have irreplaceable wealth.

"We all have what someone else wants" could easily be youtropolis' clarion call. Whether it's knowledge one possesses, wisdom, an idea, a skill, heartfelt words, or a gift for the recycle bin, someone's going to want it and benefit from it. You just don't know who it will be. So keep sharing your wares and strutting your stuff
