"One day, when I__________, I'll__________."

Knowledge

When you what? When you finish school? When you get a better paying job? When you've paid off that loan? When you have a bigger house? When your kids have gone away to college? When you lose your baby weight? When you have more TIME!

Here's the thing . . . Time is an illusion. Sometimes you feel like you have a lot of it, sometimes not so much. The truth of the matter is that Time, as you know it, is borrowed. You get the chance to use it daily in any way you want. Until One Day. None of you know when that One Day will be, but it's out there, lying in wait. That Day is not very picky. Any day, any hour, whatever you're doing, whatever your age; it doesn't care. Either way, that One Day will arrive.

You go about your day, your life, as though Time were infinite. As though you had plenty of it to write the Great American Novel, travel to Bora Bora, call that friend with whom you haven't spoken to in forever and tell them you love them. . . Maybe you will. Just maybe you'll get that chance. And One Day you'll get to do "that thing." But what if your time expires before then? What if it's tomorrow, next week, next month, in 10 years? It's an unknown.

But here's the known: You have Today, Now. Each day you have a new opportunity to savor your life. To not take for granted the people who love you, to not put off that call, or send that card, just because; to start that project you've talked about forever, to take dance lessons, to sing, to hike a trail you've never hiked; to breathe in the day, see it through the eyes of gratitude.

Every day you get a new shot at Life; a new ticket for any ride you want. It's the fact you think you have forever that stumps you from really moving forward, taking action. There's always tomorrow, you think. Maybe. But do you know for certain?

No, you might not be able to take that trip to Bora Bora next month, but you might be able to tell a family member how much you appreciate having them in your life. You might get to use your time doing something so randomly kind, you make someone's day special. You might be able to step out of your comfort zone long enough to feel that prickly excitement of doing something you've always wanted to do, but have been afraid to. Because there's always been that One Day, right?

Today sits before you, at your beck and call. Are you going to wait for One Day, or are you going to say Yes, Today! I'll do it?

Today can be One Day if I take the step and make it so. Thank you!

Exactly. I'm working on not using that phrase. What can I do today, is the phrase I ask myself most often. I know I won't get to do everything in this lifetime, but I will do what's in my reach and be grateful.

A poignant message and a truth that can inspire positive actions.

Thank you! We need to start doing what we can versus waiting for a day that may never come. What's in our reach right now?
