Whenever you feel insulted, you have a choice as to what to do with the intended insult. It's not necessary to take it on.

Excellent advice. As I age, I realize that the "insulter" is speaking more about themselves than me. I just wish young people could understand that. It saves a lot of heartbreak. Thanks for the tip!

True. Add to that backhanded compliments, intended always to hurt without appearing so. The person who insults anyone, including if done in the name of being "helpful," is bogged down under their own wounds, generally self-inflicted.
