The Microwave VS the Oven!
I think we can all agree on the fact that we love to eat! It’s what we do, not only to keep on living, but to celebrate anything, from a graduation, to a raise, a wedding, a new car, a holiday, even the disappearance of a blemish. A lot of things revolve around food.
In our daily lives, I’ve realized that when we want food, we want it NOW! We’re hungry, but we don’t want to wait 20 or 30 minutes. We can spare five minutes, but that’s it.
I’ve discovered, however, that there’s a difference between food cooked in the microwave and the oven. There’s just something missing in the microwaved meal. I can’t quite pinpoint it. It’s hot, sure, but it just doesn’t taste as good as food slowly cooked in the oven, or even the stovetop.
I started thinking more in depth about this and relating it to life in general.
Don’t we all want things now? We don’t want to wait. For anything! We just “don’t have the time.” So, we rush through life. We drive fast, we get in the shortest line at the supermarket, we fast-cook our foods, and we eat the fruit before it’s fully ripe; it’s in everything we do.
But like the food cooked in the oven, things that take more time are generally better. If we work toward something that takes time, we feel an amazing sense of accomplishment. We have an investment in it.
We need to stop having that microwave mentality and be willing to wait.
In the end, it will be in the best interest of us.
Next time you’re going to cook something, skip the microwave and try the oven. See if your meal doesn’t taste better.
Spend the time necessary to get what you want. Don’t settle for something because it’s faster.
Aren’t you worth the wait?

Brilliant analysis. A simple but often overlooked truth.

Ain't that the truth!

When you cook in the oven, you get the good smells that make your mouth water, and the anticipation builds as it takes its time cooking. No tantalizing aromas from the microwave though and very little excitement about the outcome. It's just wham, bam, eat.
It's kind of the same way with life. When we take the "scenic route" in life, it pays off with experiences we would have likely missed if we'd taken the freeway.

I didn't realize it until now, but the oatmeal I prepared on the stovetop this morning was more enjoyable than the microwave. Sure, it took longer but tending to it, stirring it, and watching it thicken was oddly enjoyable.
I'd never thought of oatmeal prep as a means of self-appreciation, but I appreciate you opening that door for me.

I have to admit I was slow to come around to the oven over the microwave. However, I am a true believer since I made the switch. I guess I discovered I was worth the wait!
Thanks for the great way you outlined for us the
benefits of waiting.
