For some, life in the fast lane is exciting--they love being where the action is. For others, it's daunting and debilitating. I feel sorry for this woman. She's clearly tied in knots from head to toe, 24/7. Stepping back isn't easy, but in her situation, it's the healthy thing to do. Maybe talking about it is her first step.
Recently, I attended a high school graduation, and the valedictorian speech, like all of them, was filled with visions of hope, possibility, achievement, and a future where "the sky's the limit." It reminded me of the one I heard at my own graduation.
Predictably, most graduates enter the rat race, begin the long climb up the ladder of perpetuity, and share this young woman's experience. Sadly, her mother is right in saying that as a minority female, the efforts are much harder.
Being a woman does complicate matters. We are not regarded in the same way. I wonder, though, how much of a sacrifice we have to make and whether of not it's worth it at the end of the day.
I hear the voice of her inner child crying out for help. She's burned out. This isn't the dream she imagined, but this is how she survives, without the comforts of home and love. There's no time for that. There's no time to rest. There's no time to enjoy life. I know so many people who feel this way but know no way out. When robots replace her, maybe she'll rest, maybe she'll write poetry, maybe she'll find someone to support her, or maybe universal income will become a thing.

Talking about it is definitely key. It also feels as though she was aiming for her mother's validation.

I hear her pain as well. I hope she gets the rest she deserves.
