A little bit about anger...

Knowledge

"...an emotion like anger that's an automatic response lasts just ninety seconds from the moment it's triggered until it runs its course. One and a half minutes, that's all. When it lasts any longer, which it usually does, it's because we've chosen to rekindle it."

~By Pema Chödrön, Living Beautifully with Uncertainty and Change.

This is probably news to everyone. It certainly was to me. Ninety seconds and it's over. Yet we feed the anger, and like a fire, keep rekindling it to the point where it can last hours, days, sometimes even years.

What a waste of time. Life is so short to be spent with a poison like anger running through our veins.

Next time something upsets us, let's ride it out for the minute and a half. Then just let it go. Resolve what needs to be resolved, but don't hold onto the anger; it's useless energy that can be spent on something like, say, Love. Just sayin'.

One of the ego's fuel sources is anger and 90 seconds isn't nearly enough to satisfy it.

Here's an article with strategies to find calm after the initial 90 seconds.

Thank you for this! I will definitely read it.

Good to know. Moving it out of our brain after 90 seconds is up to us. Mulling it over and over after 90 seconds isn't anger, it's self-torture.
