Changing is hard!
If you've ever tried changing yourself, you realize how difficult that is. So you can imagine that trying to change someone else is next to impossible. Yet people try and try. Often, they get into relationships with the expectations that the person will change and become who they want them to be. Sadly, they are bitterly disappointed.
