With Blinders On!

Knowledge

Most of the time we’re moving through life with blinders on. We look around, but we don't see. Everything is the same, yet is it really? Things are changing every day—the people you see at the stores, the cars on the road, your work, etc. Everything is different, but we don’t notice them; they’re so subtle. Then one day something “bad” happens. It could be anything— having to put one’s dog to sleep, the loss of a job, a car accident, a sick child—a number of different things. These bad things WAKE us up from our slumber. It is then we feel alive and present. So are those things really so bad?

Look back to the events in your past that were considered bad. Did something good come out of it? Did those things open your eyes to the wonderful things you had? Did they lead you to do something you’d never do? Did you grow as a person, become stronger? I bet you did.

Bad things aren’t always bad; they’re opportunities for growth; opportunities to understand what’s really important in our lives.

So next time something “bad” happens, say, “Thanks! I needed that!” Then look, really look, at what you’ve been missing all along.

Covid, definitely a bad thing, brought silver linings for many, including myself.

When something "bad" happens to us and we're in the thick of it, I wonder how impactful thoughts like "I may not see it yet, but good stuff is coming," might be in bringing some peace.

I agree. I always think now, "Is this a bad thing or a good thing?" I don't automatically assume. Most, if not all, of the changes in my life, have come from what a I thought of it at the time "a bad thing."
