Lightning crackles overhead during an electric storm that rolled over the Valley Thursday night. In this scene, looking from Granada Hills toward Sun Valley, a bolt slices through moist evening air toward the San Gabriel Mountains. Lightning strikes Thursday started five fires in Angeles National Forest, struck a utility pole and started a small grass fire in Reseda.

There was such a storm today in Acton...in mid-summer! But this is a beautiful shot. The electricity looks so powerful and alive despite the two-dimensionality of the photograph.
