Reforestation Work

Reforestation work is carried on in Bouquet Canyon, near Newhall, in the Angeles National Forest by Valley scouting units under the supervision of five eagle scouts from Explorer Post 230, Van Nuys. Swinging picks and shovels, the scouts clean weeds and underbrush out of a tree garden in upper left photo. In right photo Hal Fawcett, post advisor, oversees scout leaders, Charles Ross, 15, San Fernando, and Richard Fawcett, 15, Van Nuys, as they supervise scouts clearing mountain side. The conservation project, started by the post a little over a year ago, covers an area of 400 square miles in which the explorers and the scouts, under their charge, build camp sites, wild life areas, and care for tree plantations. Troop leaders Tom Burns and Buzz Baldwin, San Fernando, are instrumental in bringing Valley troops out to help the explorers, which in turn makes it possible for the scouts to earn merit badges.
