Historical Data: The Los Angeles Memorial Sports Arena, located at 3939 S. Figueroa Street, was officially opened on July 4, 1959 by then Vice President Richard M. Nixon and was designed by Welton Becket. The last event at the arena was a Bruce Springsteen concert. The arena was closed on March 19, 2016 and demolished to make room for a new soccer stadium.

I never got to see the Ice Follies during the day. Now I know why it was so popular and entertaining. It's a great shot--so fun! I think the photograph's black and white contrast enhances the details in the expressions that otherwise tend to blend with color photographs.
