Wishing For The End Of ICE's Reign Of Terror

Wishing Well

As I read this story, the words blurred due to fighting back tears. I had read other accounts of the brutish, inexcusable treatment of people held captive in America's detention centers. There's no decency here. There's no excuse for it—not unless Americans enjoy the perception of being heartless zombies who are good with officers of the law acting like the gestapo. These cretins are supported by our tax dollars. So is their rogue, un-American behavior which has included rape, impregnating detainees, in addition to verbal and physical abuse.

I wish more Americans would get their act together and vote out of office anyone who supports such treatment in detention. It's immoral and indecent. It's cruel and unusual punishment.

No one should fall easily to sleep at night knowing what these detainees endure every night, months in a row, when they lay their heads down to say their prayers. May all of us pray for them.

It's time to rid public office of any local, state, or national leader who has uttered any word in support of today's ICE detention centers, those who run them, and the way detainees are treated. They don't represent the principles upon which this nation was founded.

Slipstream

I wonder what joy the politicians and ICE personnel get from treating people like this. If it makes them feel powerful to handcuff senior widows, mothers, and children, then they are sick and should be behind bars themselves.

Essentially, ICE commits people to homelessness. A detention center is not a home. It's just another word for prison. It's a separation from home, family, adoring grandchildren, and precious pets. It's a separation from the life one's built and the comforts acquired. It's a punishment for seeking asylum. It's even more of a horror story when the country of origin was too dangerous to live in and they end up in the U.S., land of the free, home of the brave, only to be locked up in a modern day version of a concentration camp. This story is an example of a world gone so wrong. And all those women who called her "grandma" have their own story of homelessness to share. But we'll never hear it. I will pray for all of them.
