I'm just trying to go home

News Flash

I was moved by this poem, written by Tyre Nichols' sister. Simple, honest, heartbreaking. I heard it today and thought I'd share.

I’m just trying to go home…
Is that too much to ask? I didn’t break any law along this path.
I've skated across barriers, designed to hold me back.
I'm just trying to go home,
where the love is loud and the smiles are warm,
like the sunsets that comfort me in the coldest of my storm.
I’m just trying to go home.
I hear the sirens, I see the flashing lights.
The directions are clear. Blacks can go left, blues can go right.
I’m just trying to go home.
Don't I deserve to feel safe? Batons, badges, boots,
bright lights against my face.
I’m just trying to go home.
Does anyone hear a pain in my cry, a struggle in my breath?
God replied, “Come home my friend. Now you can rest.”

Everything about this incident, including this poem, brings me to tears.

Such needless heartbreak. Beautiful poem; it's a shame it had to be written. God bless this family.
