Illinois Candidate Assaulted At A Peaceful Protest

News Flash

I've been to many peaceful protests in my life. But I've also lived in countries under authoritarian regimes—which we're now resembling even during a peaceful protest.

It wasn't that long ago where cops wore blue and carried a baton. Now, they're in indefensible military garb pointing assault rifles at you, and treating a candidate for office in this horrific fashion. I've never seen anything like it.

This is not America. This is hatred of a kinder America, and hatred of women. Why are we putting up with it?

I'm disgusted at the behavior. ICE agents need to know what goes around comes around. There's a right way to do what needs doing, but this is not that way.

I don't condone physical assault on or by anyone, but as incidents like these in the public eye multiply, so too will assaults on ICE agents. This, in turn, gives the president license to intensify crackdowns to protect agents "only doing their job."

Tragic and sickening.

I can only compare this administration to a very abusive husband. When men are allowed to treat women this way, they go home and treat their wives this same way. Power is addicting and hard to stop.

Something happens to people when they get power. It seems they lose their sense of humanity. Instead of keeping the peace, they relish throwing people down, pepper-spraying, and using their batons, or worse, their guns. Protesting is legal. The protestors don't have weapons. The violence needs to stop.
