Every Woman Is This Woman

News Flash

"Gaze" is an award-winning Short Film by Farnoosh Samadi which has garnered an impressive 27 international film awards.

Samadi is an Iranian filmmaker. In this film she portrays the life of a common Iranian woman who makes her way home on a bus.

As I watched this film, I felt the woman's heart in my own throat. Throughout its 13 minutes, it kept me on the edge of my seat, hoping for the best. It's not about war. It's about being a woman—any woman, everywhere, every woman, anywhere in the world.

I hope you'll watch this film and feel your own humanity in this woman's plight. All Iranians, especially women, are likely sitting on pins and needles right now.

The world would not be at war if women were equal in men's eyes, allowed their rightful place in society, elected to the highest offices, and given free rein to infuse the world with love.

War is a brutal act of male insecurity and dominance, whether the intended violence is perpetrated on a nation or against a woman riding home from work on a bus. In this regard, the U.S. and Iran share much in common.
