Start your Liberation

Minimum age requirement

You must be at least 13 years of age to be eligible to sign up for a Youtropolis account. When you register, you will be asked to provide your birthdate.

Create a new account

Follow these simple steps to sign up and start building your own Youtropolis city for free:

Tap/click the Sign up button above. Our sign up form will pop up in a convenient window
Fill in the form, using a strong password, and tap/click Continue
Be sure to create a new city name that best represents you, using between 4-20 characters
Fill in the rest of the form and tap/click Join

Once you've signed up, you'll receive a welcome email with some important links. Please add Youtropolis to your email address book to ensure our notification emails reach you.

Create additional accounts

You may create a second Youtropolis account. For instance, in addition to your primary city, you may want to create a city in which you collaborate with a different group of friends, a family clan, or business colleagues. A second account will require a distinct email address that differs from your primary Youtropolis account, as well as a new City name. To create a new account, follow these steps:

If you're signed into your existing Youtropolis account, please log out first
Once you have redirected to the home page, choose the Sign up button in the upper right of your screen
Be sure to provide an email address that differs from the one associated with your primary Youtropolis account
Create a strong password by using a unique phrase that's easy to remember but hard for others to guess. Add numbers or punctuation marks for added security.
Enter a new city name that uses between 4-20 characters and differs from the one associated with your primary Youtropolis account
Once you have completed the form, click Join

Log into your Youtropolis city account

If you are currently signed out and want to log into your account:

Click Sign In above
Enter your email address or your Youtropolis city name
Enter your password
Select the Remember me checkbox to be directed to your city home page the next time you visit
Click the Sign In button

Please note that if you or someone else is logged into another Youtropolis account on your computer, you must first log out of that Youtropolis city before signing in to yours. To log out of another city:

click the 3 dot Manage menu at the top right
select Sign out from the drop down menu

If you're returning to your city's home page but find that you're logged out:

Tap/click the "Hamburger" menu located on the upper right of your city page
Click Sign In
On the log in page, enter your email address or your Youtropolis city name
Enter your password
Select the Remember me checkbox to be directed to your city home page the next time you visit
Click the Sign In button.

If you have forgotten your city name, you can log in using your email address:

On the log in page, enter your email address instead of your city name
Enter your password
Select the Remember me checkbox to be directed to your city's home page the next time you visit
Tap/click the Sign in button

Trouble accessing your city account

If you've forgotten your account's email address or can't log into your account, try logging in with your city name:

On the log in page, enter your Youtropolis city name instead of your email address
Enter your password
Select the Remember me checkbox to be directed to your city home page the next time you visit
Tap/click the Sign in button

Log out of your Youtropolis city account

Play it safe! If you are using Youtropolis on a shared or public computer, make it a habit to always log out before ending your session. Here's how:

Select the 3 dot Manage menu in the upper right of your city page
Tap/click Sign out

Change your password

Sign in
On desktop and mobile, select the 3 dot Manage menu on the top right, then choose Settings
If you don't remember your current password, select "Forget your password?" and follow those instructions
If on desktop, scroll down and enter your Current Password
If on mobile, select your Account and scroll to enter your Current Password
Enter your new password into the New Password field
Enter your new password again into the Confirm Password field
Scroll to the bottom of the Settings page and click/tap Save

Reset a lost password

If you are having trouble logging into your account, here's how to request a new password:

Select the sign in link
On the login page, scroll down to just below the log in fields and select Forgot your password?
Enter your email address or city name
Check "I'm not a robot"
Click the Send reset request button

How to update your Youtropolis app manually

Updating your app to the latest version improves app stability and security and includes latest fixes, new features, and an improved user experience.

To manually update your app on your iPhone or iPad

Apps that you download from the App Store are automatically updated by default. But if you run into an issue, you can update our App manually. Here's how:

Open the App Store
Tap your profile icon at the top of the screen
Scroll to see pending updates and release notes and tap Update next to the Youtropolis app to update it

To manually update your app on your Android device

Open the Google Play Store app
At the top right, tap the profile icon
Tap Manage apps & device (apps with an update available are labeled "Update available"
Select Youtropolis and tap Update

Founder profile

Every city has a founder. As the founder of your own city, you get to tell your story through your profile settings and share some things that matter to you. That way, visitors to your city can discover what's truly special about you and your city.

To create your profile:

Select the 3 dot Manage menu above
Choose Profile
Click/tap Edit Profile
Fill in the form and click Save
Fill in the secondary form
Upload your profile image
Click Save

To edit your profile any time:

Select the 3 dot Manage menu
Click/tap Edit Profile
Edit your profile
Click Save

Add a profile image

To add a profile image to your City Founder page:

Select the 3 dot Manage menu above
Choose Profile
Click/tap the pen icon and click/tap the Select button
Select your desired image from your image file/gallery
Once the image thumbnail loads successfully, click Save

How to convert a HEIC file to jpeg

If you've tried unsuccessfuly to upload a profile image, chances are you're trying to upload a HEIC file instead of jpeg or png.

Although HEIC images are converted automatically to jpeg on some phones, on others you may have to change the settings under your phone's photo options. Also, some desktop browsers require images be converted first.

You can easily convert an HEIC image to jpeg here for free. All it takes is dragging and dropping your image into the space provided and then saving it.

If you don't want to use an online service, you can download a converter to your desktop. For mac users go to the Mac App Store and search HEIC converter. You can also go to the Microsoft Store and get the HEIC Photo Converter.

If you're a Windows 10 or Windows 11 user, you can use the Windows Photo app that’s already installed: just type "Photo" into the Search field and it opens the internal Photo app. Select the photo you want to convert, click “Save as” under the 3 dot menu, then select the jpg or jpeg file type.

Once your image is converted, you can return to your profile or post form, select the image from your image library, upload as usual, and save.

Create your Call to Action

The purpose of your Call to Action is to build your mecca around a heartfelt ambition, cause, or the ideal future you hope for, and invite others to join in to make it a reality.

To create or edit your Call to Action:

Select the 3 dot Manage menu above
Choose Profile
Select the Edit Profile link
Choose Call to Action in the menu on the left
Write your Call to Action in the field
Enter tags in the Call to Action field
Select the Save button post your Call to Action

Add a city motto

If you could bring one special message to the world, what would it be? If you can answer this question, you have your motto!

Your motto is your city's welcome statement to all visitors. Be it the mantra you live by, your unique mission in life, or a special greeting to visitors about your city, your motto will appear in your city's profile pages and will be displayed prominently on your city's welcome sign. Being only 40 characters in length, you'll have to keep your shout out to the world brief.

When you publicize your city on Youtropolis' Universe News, your motto will appear in City Hall searches to help kindred spirits find you.

To create or edit your motto at any time:

Select the 3 dot Manage menu on the top right
Select Profile
Select the Edit Profile link
Choose City Motto in the menu on the left
Add your motto in the "Enter motto here" field
Enter tags in the "Tag your motto" field
Click/tap Save

Select your city seal

Every city has its own distinct character. By selecting your city's seal, you'll give visitors a glimpse into who you are and the nature of your city.

When you choose your city seal, your city welcome sign and graphic will change according to the seal you select, and your city seal will appear on your welcome page and profile pages.

To select your city seal:

Select the 3 dot Manage menu on the upper right
Choose Profile
Select the Edit Profile link
Choose City seal in the menu on the left
Mouse over each seal to learn about its character
Select the seal that best represents you
Click/tap Save

How to populate your city

Populating your city is an opportunity to build a special tribe of people who will support your liberation objectives and activities. Here's how to create a distinct and irresistible society with your very own eclectic mix of tribe members.

Tag your tribe:

Select Send a Postcard in your city's Civic Center located on the left side of your city page
Select Build your tribe
Tag your tribe with keywords that best illustrate the nature of your city

Invite people you know and love:

Choose the style of invitation postcard you want to send, then select that postcard
On the postcard form, add email addresses for each invitee on separate lines, or you can select import your contacts
Personalize the message content, if you wish

Once recipients receive your postcard invitation and join Youtropolis, they'll automatically become members of your tribe. You will receive an email notifcation and an alert when new invitees join.

Invite Youtropolis members you'd like to get to know:

Select the search icon above and choose Cities
Select any tag in the tag box to explore cities, or enter your own tag search in the tag search bar to find kindred spirits who might wish to join your tribe
Select a city name to navigate to that person's city
On their city welcome page, select Create Message in their Civic Center to send them a private invitation message

Publicize your city

When you first register, your city is publicized on Youtropolis' Universe News. This brief announcement, which includes your name, city name, and motto, will inform Youtropolis news watchers about the founding of your city. Your city will also be searchable under Cities. It's our way of helping you draw tourists and build a following.

In addition, you may promote your city on any of your favorite social networks. Here's how:

Select the 3 dot Manage menu above
Choose Profile
Select the Edit Profile link
Choose Promote in the menu on the left
Mouse over the Share button under Go the extra mile! and select any social network
Fill in the form that pops up in a window
Click Save

If you wish to temporarily unpublish your city:

Select Don't reveal my city at this time

To republish your city:

Select Open your city and publish it...
