Build your City

Quick tutorials on the basics
How your city welcome sign works

Once you select your city's seal, the center region of your city welcome page will display a distinct welcome sign based on the seal you chose.

  • In the center of the sign, your city name is displayed with your motto beneath it
  • The year displayed reflects the year that you registered and founded your city
  • The population number increases as new tribe members  join in to collaborate with you
Your Civic Center

On desktop, you'll find your Civic Center on the left side of your city and profile pages.

On mobile and the app, Civic Center icons are accessed by tapping the 3-line menu above the Welcome sign.

Civic Center icons provide easy access to conducting your city's business:

  • Select About me to edit profile content or upload a new profile image
  • Select Call to Action to review or edit its message
  • Select Send Message to send a message to any other Youtropolis liberator
  • Select Populate your tribe to invite others to your city or send a greeting card

When visitors travel to your city, your Civic Center allows them to:

  • View your Founder Profile
  • Read your Call to Action
  • Join your tribe
  • Send you a private message
City landmarks

Located at the top of the page is your landmark scroller featuring your city's landmarks. Each landmark icon within the scroller navigates to its own page of unique content generated by you: your you-factor progress, news, polls, pledges, wishes, amusements, lessons, events, gifts, and gallery.

Your landmarks are genuine points of interest to city visitors who by nature are curious tourists eager to discover more about you and the city you've created. The more posts you add to your landmarks, the more interesting your city will be, giving visitors genuine insight into your heart, your soul, and your world.

To post into any of your landmarks:

  • Select the desired landmark by scrolling through the landmark icons
  • Click/tap the red word that appears in the landmark's introductory headline (when there are no current posts)
  • The About road sign popup will appear and describe the landmark
  • Click/tap the underlined word in the text to navigate to the post form
  • Fill in the form by selecting your audience first, adding title, post content, and tags
  • Add images if desired, then click/tap Post to add your post to the landmark page
  • Once you begin to post content, the headline will disappear, and the page will navigate to your post page
  • For future posts in that landmark, click “Take a new action!” located below the landmark scroller, and select the appropriate icon

You can also post new content to each landmark by clicking Take a new action! which opens your City hub.

City hub: Start something new…and let your liberation begin

On Youtropolis, jumping right into the action is the best way to learn your way around and discover how to get the most out of your experience as a liberator. Your city hub, located on your city home page and tribe page, is the place to start.

Click "Take a new action!" to choose the action you'd like to take. Your city hub contains powerful actions designed to heal the world one small action at a time.

You can post:

  • actionable newsflashes to your city News page
  • important wishes that need fulfilling to your Wishing Well
  • knowledge or lessons learned to share in your U of You, and
  • group activities or events to your Event calendar

We help you reach a larger audience by promoting your posts to our Universal Landmarks as shown in images below, or by allowing you to share to other social media. But if you'd rather limit sharing to your tribe, just uncheck the audiences you want to exclude.

Through your city hub, you can also choose to:

  • receive insight into personal matters through creating Tribal Wave polls
  • make a pledge to change a condition in your life or in the world
  • uplift your tribe by adding something fun to your Amusement Park

Every action you take reveals the kind of liberator you are and the kind of city you've founded.

Since love matters deeply, your hub always allows you to help others, too. From your hub, select "Respond to polls, pledges, & wishes" and you'll be helping others by giving some love, support, or insight in response to meeting their needs. Another way to meet needs is to add items to your city's Recycle Bin that someone in need might value.

For every action you take, you'll earn valuable kindreds that quickly increase your city's weconomy and raise your stature as a liberator. So jump into action and see how quickly your city grows.

City seal

Your city seal not only represents your city's character, it represents one of Youtropolis' seven sitewide City Districts where other liberators gather to dialog and learn about how to liberate themselves and others in different areas of life.

On mobile:

  • Your City seal is displayed on your city's welcome page beneath the Welcome sign

On desktop:

  • Your City seal is displayed on your city's welcome page and profile pages in the upper right column

To see what's happening in your district:

  • Mouse over your City seal icon, tap or click
  • Select a topic of interest on the District page
  • Start reading
  • As an option, you may respond to the topic or Create a new topic if you are signed in
  • You may also participate in any other City District by selecting a different City District icon in the district scroller

If you haven't yet chosen a city seal, it will not appear on your city's welcome or profile pages. To add a seal:

  • Select the 3 dot Manage menu on the upper right
  • Choose Profile
  • Select the Edit Profile link
  • Choose City seal in the menu
  • Mouse over each seal to learn about its character
  • Select the seal that most represents you
  • Click Save
Bridge Builder

If you've added a Call to Action to your city's profile and tagged it, Bridge Builder intelligently finds and matches you with potential new allies and kindred spirits based on how you tagged your city's Call to Action.

By suggesting like-minded liberators whose ideals or goals match yours, Bridge Builder gives you the opportunity to join new, relatable tribes and invite them to join yours, increasing the strength of your social safety net.

To discover who's in your Bridge Builder:

  • Select the 3 dot manage menu above
  • Choose Bridge Builder

If there are no matches yet:

  • Click/tap Call to Action
  • Enter descriptive tags into the form's tag field
  • Click/tap Save
Toot your own horn!

People who rise to the top never shy away from tooting their own horn and building a following (think political candidates). They know it pays off! So it's time to give a shout out to the world and get your liberation off the ground.

From your city pages click/tap Take a new action!

  • Select Newsflash
  • On the form, click “Select your audience” to ensure both Trade Alliances and The Universe are checked so your wish is shared with a wider audience
  • Uncheck the box(es) to narrow your audience
  • Fill in the rest of the form, then Post! Your tribe members will receive an alert.

If you've already created a Newsflash and want to share it on other social media, go to your Newsflash post page:

  • Select the Share icon below the post, and tap the icon of your choice
Create buzz!

A quick and easy way to create buzz for your city and generate interest in your liberation is by tagging your motto with descriptive words that capture your city's essence.

Here's how to tag your city motto:

  • Go to the 3 dot Manage menu on the upper right
  • Select Profile
  • Choose the Edit Profile link
  • Add a city motto if you haven't yet done so
  • Add tags that will pique interest and attract others to your city
  • Tap/click Save

Your tags will immediately post to Youtropolis Cities and your city will appear in search results with a convenient hyperlink to your city when matching tag searches are conducted by others.

Build your tribe

If you're feeling like your city (or your life) is as dull as a ghost town, it's time to have fun building up your tribe! Your tribe shapes the culture of your city, supports its economic success, and collaborates in its activities to give you a leg up.

To build up your tribe, follow these steps

Tag your tribe:

  • On desktop, select Populate your tribe in your city's Civic Center located on the left side of your city page
  • In the app or on mobile, select the 3-line menu, then tap the Populate your tribe icon
  • Tag your tribe with keywords that best illustrate the nature of your city

Invite people you know and love:

  • Choose the style of invitation postcard you want to send, then select that postcard
  • On the postcard form, add email addresses for each invitee on separate lines, or you can select import your contacts
  • Personalize the message content, if you wish

Once recipients receive your postcard invitation and join Youtropolis, they'll automatically become members of your tribe. You will receive an email notification and an alert when new invitees join.

Invite Youtropolis members you'd like to get to know:

  • Select the search icon above and choose Cities
  • Select Explore cities and click any tag in the tag box, or enter your own tag search in the tag search bar to find kindred spirits who might wish to join your tribe
  • Select a city name to navigate to that person's city
  • On their city welcome page, select Message me in their Civic Center to send them a private invitation message
Establish a unique urban culture

Cultivating your own distinct and diverse urban culture is a powerful way to grow your city's population. Imagine establishing an egalitarian society whose population helps you foment the change you're seeking. Whether you want to belong to a certain in-crowd, excel in a chosen skill, learn a new language, launch a new business, or hang out with artists and musicians, it's time to attract your ideal dream team to your city with the goal of having them join your tribe.

To draw interest and populate your city with like-minded folks and experts, tag your tribe with keywords that highlight the urban culture you want to cultivate (e.g., world travelers, protesters, knitters, bikers, investors, etc.) Adding up to five tags will attract a more diverse and interesting population.

To add tags to your tribe:

  • Select Send a Postcard in your Civic Center located on the left side of your city page.
  • In the app or on mobile, select the 3-line menu, then tap the Populate your tribe icon
  • On the Tribe form, add up to 5 tags to identify the nature of your tribe
  • Click Save

When other liberators search for matching words under People, your city will be listed in the search results with a convenient link to your city.

Manage your Tribe

Your tribe management page provides a list of your tribe members and the date they joined your tribe. If you want to banish a tribe member for any reason, follow the steps below. When you banish a tribe member, they lose the privilege of receiving future tribe notifications from your city. The tribe member won't be notified of their removal.

To banish a tribe member:

  • Select Tribe & Alliances under the 3 dot Manage menu
  • In the tribe member listing, find the tribe member you want to banish and click Banish
  • Click Banish on the confirmation page to complete the action

To unbanish a former tribe member:

  • Select Tribe & Alliances under the 3 dot Manage menu
  • Click Banished
  • In the list of banished tribe members, find the member you'd like to unbanish
  • Click the Unbanish link next to their city name
