Learn How to Use The Right Harvesting Tools

Knowledge

This is the sixth article in our series, "Sharing Generosity and Creating Community Through Happy Harvester Social Events."

In this article you'll learn how to use the tools that are typically used in picking events.

You won't need to use all of the tools demonstrated in the videos below on every pick event, but once you've selected the height of the tree you'll be picking, you can assess which tools will best suit the need.

In these videos, Kathy Faith, founder of Happy Harvesters, demonstrates how to use each tool, and provides a bit of information on what its main purpose is and under what circumstance she'll use it.

Here's a quick look at how to prune a branch loaded with oranges with the pruning tool.

Here's how to clip lemons off a branch and drop them into a crate using the needle-nose clippers.

Here's how to use an ice pick to quickly pull down a grouping of lemons.

Here's how to use a soil cultivator to pull down a cluster of lemons.

In this short, Kathy demonstrates the beauty of using her most favorite tool, the fruit picking basket.

And here, she shows you how to connect an adjustable light-weight extender to the fruit picking basket to reach higher clusters of fruit.

Finally, in this last video, Kathy demonstrates the simplicity and advantages of using an aluminum telescoping pruner to reach fruit that is higher up on a tree.
