I truly can’t take one side or the other. Obviously, she shouldn’t be let free, but aren’t her physicians guilty as well? Her husband and family? She was/is sick!

What complicates this case is the gaggle of doctors and their intermingling concoctions of prescribed drugs. Our medical system is beyond imperfect, it's become corrupt and exclusively profit-oriented now. Doctors are financially incentivized to keep patient visits to a ten minute period, and they end up prescribing meds without having enough time to fully review the complexities of one's chart, the potential drug interactions that may surface, or discuss the case with other doctors the patient has seen. It's like visiting an In-N-Out burger where the server is too busy to do anything more than take your money and hand you a bag. Is it any wonder there are 250,000 deaths annually due to medical errors in US hospitals today? And this is why pre-op patients are now forced to sign a document that forces them to accept arbitration instead of launching a law suit should things go south during surgery.
Lindsey Clancy couldn't have been more clear about her state of mind. The signs were all there. She should have been hospitalized and her kids should not have been allowed anywhere near her so long as she was having suicidal thoughts. The negligence and failure here reminds me of the countless times police have been warned about a deranged person with guns and known mental health issues, but dismiss the concern after a brief, superficial chat with the accused. Then the school massacre happens. In this case, everyone involved bears some responsibility for the tragic events that sadly unfolded.
I don't know the details of how doctors and experts testified in this case, but I know it's a real thing, not something that's made up to let women get away with murder. I worked with a man who's wife had postpartum depression. They were strongly Christian even referring to Halloween as a pagan event. They had a toddler, a boy, and when their second son was born, his wife went into a severe depression. He told me that hadn't happened with the first one. When he returned to work after extended time off, he told me he had been afraid to leave his wife alone with the kids. He was worried about her taking her life and the kids. He had arranged for people from the church to stay with her so he could come back to work. Eventually, she moved out of the depression with no further incidents. It was their last child though.
From what I've read, the jury is 11 for acquittal with one committed holdout, and the judge is pushing hard to get a verdict. The 11/1 vote points to a lot of evidence supporting the mother's diagnosis.
If it goes to a second trial, instead of only one charge of first-degree murder, the prosecution might have better luck getting jail time by offering second-degree murder and manslaughter as well. I can say that I'm glad I'm not on that jury.
